The first striking feature of the DAVOSA Apnea Diver is the multi-coloured ring around the dial. It sports the French national colours only by chance. In fact the colours blue, white and red replicate an internationally recognised breathing exercise in freediving: A breath is taken during the five-second blue phase, it is held for 15 seconds (white area) and then air is expelled over 10 seconds (red area). With the help of this colour code, the freediver can concentrate fully on this vital breathing exercise without needing to count or use a stopwatch.

The watch must be held in an upright position for these breathing exercises – without the need for improvised support, if possible. The DAVOSA Apnea Diver offers the perfect solution, and is thus a watertight professional freediving instrument. By unscrewing the crown at 3 o’clock, the middle section of a slightly curved stainless steel case can be extracted. Thanks to a hinged ring that is attached to the middle section, the diver can now safely erect the remaining watch case while performing breathing exercises.

The Apnea Diver's outer case has a diameter of 46mm and is made of 316L stainless steel with a satin-brushed finish. It features a 42mm inner case which can be extracted by unscrewing the crown at 3 o'clock and is PVD black plated. The inner case is also erectable thanks to a hinged ring attached to it. The case is water resistant down to 20 ATM - 200 meters underwater. The large screwed down crown is located at the 12 o'clock position. The caseback is also made of 316L stainless steel and is screwed-on in order to ensure its water resistance. On the back of the watch case is a relief-engraved signature of Nik Linder, who is a well-known freediver that Davosa developed the Apnea Diver watch with.

A further feature to the Apnea Diver is the special design of the seconds hand. In contrast to scuba diving where the minute hand is crucial, in freediving it’s all about the seconds, which is why the seconds hand bears a long red tip which extends over the top of the seconds scale, enabling the exact reading of the seconds at all times.

The matte black dial is protected by a scratch resistant sapphire glass crystal with an anti reflective coating to ensure that the dial can be easily read even under direct sunlight or deep underwater. The markings on the dial have Super-LumiNova applied to them for easy viewing under all lighting conditions. The hands are made of 316L stainless steel and also have Super-LumiNova applied to them.

The unidirectional rotating bezel is made of 316L stainless steel and boasts a high-tech scratch-resistant ceramic bezel insert which rises conically between the stainless steel bezel and inner glass rim. The luminous dot of Super-LumiNova in the centre of the top triangle provides additional orientation.

The Apnea Diver is powered by a Swiss made DAV 3021 automatic movement which provides precision, reliability and a high level of performance. It has a power reserve of 38 hours and guarantees a very reliable and accurate timekeeping experience.

Two comfortable synthetic rubber straps with signed pin buckles are supplied with the Apnea Diver. A strap changing tool is also provided and the watch comes in a special Apnea watch carry box made of volcanic fiber.

Freediver Nikolay “Nik” Linder, who helped develop the Apnea Diver, holds five world records for distance diving under ice, two German records for distance diving in a lake, the record for the longest underwater kiss, as well as the longest breath-hold while suspended from the ceiling with his head in an aquarium.
